Review of Literature Theoretical Review on urbanization
Urbanizationย orย urbanย driftย isย theย physicalย growthย ofย urbanย areaย isย a result migration and even suburban concentration intoย cities, particularlyย theย veryย largestย ones.
The united Nations projected that half of the worldโs population would live in urban areas at the end of 2008.
Urbanization is closely linked to modernization, industrialization and the sociological process of rationalization. Urbanization can describe specific condition at a set of time is the proportion overtime. So the term urbanization can represent the level of urban relative to over all populations or it can represent the rate at which the urban proportion is increasing.
Urbanization is not merely a phenomenon, but a rapid and historic transformation of human social roots on a global scale, whereby predominately village culture is being rapidly replaced by predominantly urban culture the last major change in settlement patternsย wasย theย accumulationย ofย linter-ย gathersย intoย villagesย many thousandย yearsย ago.ย Villageย cultureย isย characterizedย byย distant bloodiness, unfamiliar relations and Competitive behavior. This unprecedentedย movementย ofย peopleย isย forecastย toย continueย and intensity in the few decades, mushrooming cities to sizes in comprehensibleย onlyย aย centuryย ago.
Asย moreย peopleย leaveย villagesย andย farmsย toย inย citiesย urbanย growth results.ย Theย rapidย growthย toย liveย inย citiesย likeย Chicagoย inย theย lateย 19th centuryย Tokyoย inย theย midย twentiethย canย beย attributedย largelyย toย rural urbanย migration.ย Thisย kindย ofย growthย isย especiallyย commonย placeย in developing countries. This phenomenal growth can also be attributedย toย theย liveย ofย notย justย economicย opportunitiesย butย toย lossย or deregulation of farm land rand pastureland due to development, pollution,ย landย grabsย orย conย flintsย theย attractionย andย arrogantlyย of hedonistic pleasures of urban areas, proximity and case of mass transportย asย wellย asย theย opportunityย toย asstย individualism.
The rapid urbanization of the worldโs population over the twentieth century is described in the 2005 revision of the UN world urbanization prospects report. The global proportion of urban population rose dramatically from 13% (220 million) in 1900 to 29% (732m) in 1950, to 49% (3.2 m) in 2005. The same projected that the figure is likely to rise 60% (4.9 m) by 2030.
Accordingย toย theย UNย Stateย ofย theย worldย populationย 2007ย report, sometimesย inย theย middleย ofย 2007ย theย majorityย ofย peopleย worldwide willย beย livingย inย townsย aย cities,ย forย theย firstย timeย inย historyย thisย is referredย toย asย theย annualย ofย theย urbanย millenniumย orย theย โtipping pointโ.ย Inย regardย toย futureย fiends,ย itย isย estimatedย 93%ย ofย urban growthย occurringย inย Asiaย andย Africa.
Urbanization rates vary between countries. The United States andย Unitedย Kingdomย haveย aย farย higherย urbanizationย kuelย fromย China, India,ย Swazilandย orย Niger,ย butย aย farย slowerย annualย urbanizationย rate sinceย muchย lessย ofย theย populationย isย goingย inย aย ruralย area.ย Some nations make a distribution between suburban and urban areas, while others do not indeed, human conditions within such areas differย greatly.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
Theย objectivesย ofย thisย studyย areย examineย theย effectย ofย urbanization andย unemploymentย onย theย Nigeriaย economy.ย Withย theย dataย obtained followedย byย theย statisticalย methodย used,ย theย researchersย wereย ableย to analysesย theย statisticalย informationย andย testย formulatedย hypothesis.
From the test of hypothesis, it was recorded that unemployment has significant impact on the GDP with negative relationshipย onย GDPย whileย urbanizationย hasย significantย impactย with positiveย relationshipย onย GDP.
SUMMARY
Urbanization and unemployment have indeed become a thorn in the flesh of successive government in Nigeria. The economic hardship in the country today has been worsened by the unending problem posted by urbanization and unemployment among youths. The face is that unemployment among youths. The face is that unemployment also exists in rural areas but predominant in urban centre where there are opportunities for paid job wish attractiveย remunerations that attracts young women and me from theย rural areas.
Moreย so,ย theย consequencesย ofย suchย inflowย ofย ableย bodiesย men and women into the urban centre coupled with high rate of unemploymentย leadย toย severalย vicesย suchย asย robbery,ย prostitution, drugย traffickingย whichย areย ofย adverseย effectย toย theย economy.
CONCLUSION
Inย orderย toย evaluateย thisย study,ย theย researchersย wentย through collectionย ofย secondaryย dataย whichย wereย statisticallyย analyzed.ย The resultsย obtainedย fromย theย statisticalย analysisย carriedย outย byย the researchers, unemployment has significant impact on the gross domesticย productย ofย Nigeriaย andย asย unemploymentย increasesย GDP decreasesย ieย unemploymentย hasย aย negativeย relationshipย withย GDP.
As rate of urbanization increases, the rate of unemployment also increases the two moves in the same direction. This is because of the unattractiveness of the rural area which through rural โ urban migration pushes up the population of the urban area more than it can accommodates in terms of facilities and job opportunities. This situation of rural โ urban migration creates large scale Unemployment among youths which encourages the development of illegalย activitiesย andย inย termย leadsย toย declineย inย productivityย and developmentย ofย theย economy.
RECOMMENDATION
Inย theย courseย ofย thisย study,ย soย manyย observationsย wereย made theseย observationsย howย thatย ifย appropriateย stepย areย notย takenย quickly toย arrestย theย situation,ย theย problemย willย getย outย ofย hand.
Therefore, the following recommendations are made based on the findings:
- Availability of Agriculture facilities such a tractor incubators will make agriculture attractive in rural areas and decrease the ruralโurban migration of the young
- Government in collaboration with private sector could make and implement programme for rural upliftement such as health care programmes, housing loans, electricity, water supplyย ย So that they will not have interest to migrate to urban areas.
- The control of population growth through persuasion, legislations reduction in absolute pourly and inequality particularly among women and general education should be embarked upon since population has out-numbered the available resources thereby leading to unemployment.
