CHAPYTER ONE

Objectivesย of theย Study

ย Theย mainย objectiveย ofย thisย projectย isย providingย aย two-shaftย tableย loomย toย theย Department of Fine andย Applied Arts University of Beninย for the production ofย wovenย fabrics.

The project is aimed a adding a new Two โ€“ shaft table loom to the available ones inย theย Departmentย of Fineย And Appliedย Artsย University of Beninย for theย students toย work with in order to reduce the stress inadequate loom for both students and theย lecturers.

Theย specificย objectivesย areย to:

  1. Provide a two-shaft table loom.
  2. Produce woven fabrics of chosen colours using the
  3. Adapt the woven fabrics for the creation of contemporary male

CHAPTERย TWO

REVIEWย OFย RELATED LITERATURE

Theย chapterย isย aboutย gettingย informationย fromย books,ย journals,ย magazines,ย internet,ย oral interviews, discussion etceteraย thatย areย relevantย toย theย project.

Itย hasย been discussedย based on theย followingย sub-headings:

  • Definition of Loom
  • Types of Loom
  • Definition of Weaving
  • History of Weaving
  • Types of Weaving

Definitionย of Loomย

A loom is a machine used in weaving fabrics from yarn or other fibres. A wovenย fabric produced on a loom is made by interlacing two sets of threads at right angles.ย The longitudinal threads are called the warp, and the transverse threads are called theย weftย otherwiseย known asย filling. This chapter gives a detailed account of the step by step activity that was carried out in order to actualise this project. This chapter also explains the method used in carrying out this project. The materials, tools and equipment used in this project are listed below.

CHAPTERย FOUR

DESCRIPTIVEย ANALYSIS OFย THEย PROJECTย ANDย END-USE

This chapter describes the woven fabric weaving and discusses the end use withย visualsย forย the purposeย ofย clarity.

Weavingย Preparation

Beforeย embarkingย onย weaving,ย certainย thingsย mustย beย putย inย place.

  1. NOTE: Before anything, your loom must be ready and in a good condition.
  2. The accessories must be intact because if anyone should get missing, it may lead to delay and in most cases stop the whole idea of weaving.
  3. The materials must be ready as listed in chapter 3 of this
  4. There must be a warping mill.

Step 1: Locate your warping mill and tie your warp thread to the warping mill. Takeย it down and take it up in a reversed manner to create a cross between the warpย threads.ย This will makeย theย threadย flowย up and down.

Reason:ย Thisย crossย is whatย willย helpย theย weftย threadย toย interlaceย withย the warpย threadย whenย weavingย starts. Next is the insertion ofย shedย sticks

CHAPTERย FIVE

Conclusion

ย Inย a bidย to solve theย problem ofย insufficient facilities in the Department ofย Fine and Applied Arts University of Benin the research came about. Therefore theย research is about the provision of a two-shaft table loom to the students of theย department. Loom is a necessity in this department especially to textile studentsย and lecturers because it aids learning process and also help lecturers to teachย without stress and students will also be able to practice what they have learnt inย class. Moreover, this researcher also went into production of contemporary maleย apparel with the woven fabric gotten from the loom. Weaving is an aspect of artย that should be embraced because of its numerous advantages so I recommend thisย research project for students who want to delve into Art and even those who areย already in the art community. It is my hope that this attempt would be appreciatedย by students of this department as this would enhance their academic and personalย skills.

Nevertheless, any suggestion to make this project a better one would be highlyย appreciated.
