The study delved into historical trends, patterns, and the impact of energy prices on energy efficiency, considering various demographic factors among respondents.

Beginning with the awareness and understanding of historical trends, a substantial majority of respondents demonstrated a clear grasp of the historical trends in energy prices in Nigeria. Overwhelmingly, participants acknowledged fluctuations in energy prices over the past years and attributed these changes to global factors. This awareness extended to the acknowledgement of the role of government policies in influencing historical trends in energy prices. The respondents’ keen awareness of these factors suggests a well-informed populace, cognizant of the external forces shaping energy prices in the country.

Turning to the historical patterns of energy efficiency, respondents exhibited a similar level of awareness and understanding. The majority agreed or strongly agreed that they were aware of the historical patterns of energy efficiency in Nigeria. This awareness extended to the observation of increased adoption of energy-efficient practices over the years. The findings suggest a positive trajectory in the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices, indicating a growing consciousness of energy efficiency among the surveyed population.

In exploring the impact of energy prices on energy efficiency, the study unearthed noteworthy insights. The majority of respondents affirmed that they believed global factors significantly influenced energy prices in Nigeria. This perception aligns with the understanding that energy prices are subject to broader international dynamics. Additionally, respondents recognized the impact of government initiatives in response to energy price changes, indicating a positive view of policy interventions in fostering energy efficiency.

Examining consumer behaviours and industrial practices, the study found a strong consensus among respondents. A significant proportion agreed that consumers tend to adjust their energy efficiency practices in response to changes in energy prices. This aligns with the concept of price elasticity of demand, where consumers modify their behaviour based on changes in prices. Furthermore, respondents believed that industries in Nigeria adapt their operations for enhanced energy efficiency based on changes in energy prices. This finding highlights the interconnectedness of economic actors and energy-related practices in the industrial sector.

The study delved into technological advances and their impact on energy efficiency trends. A substantial portion of respondents agreed that technological advances have positively influenced energy efficiency trends in Nigeria. This positive perception indicates a recognition of the role of innovation and technology in driving improvements in energy efficiency.

The examination of demographic factors provided additional layers of understanding. Respondents across different age groups, educational levels, and years of experience in the energy-related field exhibited similar trends in their perceptions, indicating a broad consensus that transcends demographic boundaries. This universality in attitudes suggests a coherent narrative regarding energy prices and efficiency within the surveyed population.

In summary, the findings from this study paint a nuanced picture of the intricate dynamics between energy prices and energy efficiency in Nigeria. The conducted one-sample t-tests aimed to scrutinize three critical hypotheses related to the correlation between energy prices and energy efficiency in Nigeria. Firstly, the null hypothesis asserting no significant correlation between energy prices and energy efficiency in Nigeria was decisively rejected. This rejection implies that there exists a substantial association between energy prices and energy efficiency in the country. Secondly, the examination of historical trends in energy prices and their alignment with historical patterns of energy efficiency revealed a rejection of the null hypothesis. This outcome signifies a meaningful connection between the historical trajectories of energy prices and energy efficiency. Lastly, the hypothesis asserting no significant impact of changes in energy prices on energy efficiency over the past decade was also decisively rejected. This rejection suggests that alterations in energy prices have indeed played a notable role in influencing energy efficiency trends in Nigeria. In conclusion, the empirical evidence supports the notion that energy prices and energy efficiency are intricately linked, emphasizing the importance of considering both factors in the formulation of energy policies and strategies in Nigeria.

Recommendations

The following recommendations were made based on the findings of this study:

  1. Integrated Policy Framework: Develop an integrated energy policy framework that considers both the historical trends of energy prices and patterns of energy efficiency. This comprehensive approach will facilitate a more holistic and effective strategy to address challenges and harness opportunities in the energy sector.
  2. Public Awareness Campaigns: Implement targeted public awareness campaigns to enhance the understanding of the general population regarding historical trends in energy prices and the importance of energy efficiency. Educating the public can stimulate behavioural changes, encouraging more sustainable and energy-efficient practices.
  3. Incentives for Energy-Efficient Technologies: Introduce financial incentives and support mechanisms for industries and individuals adopting energy-efficient technologies. This can include tax breaks, subsidies, and other favourable conditions to encourage the widespread adoption of technologies that enhance energy efficiency.
