LITERATURE REVIEW
Basketball
Basketballย is aย team sportย in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangularย court, compete with the primary objective ofย shootingย aย basketballย (approximately 9.4 inches (24ย cm) in diameter) through the defender’s hoop (a basket 18 inches (46ย cm) in diameter mounted 10 feet (3.048ย m) high to aย backboardย at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Aย field goalย is worth two points, unless made from behind theย three-point line, when it is worth three. After a foul, timed play stops and the player fouled or designated to shoot aย technical foulย is given one, two or three one-pointย free throws. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but if regulation play expires with the score tied, an additional period of play (overtime) is mandated.
Players advance the ball by bouncing it while walking or running (dribbling) or by passing it to a teammate, both of which require considerable skill. On offense, players may use a variety of shotsย โ theย layup, theย jump shot, or aย dunk; on defense, they may steal the ball from a dribbler, intercept passes, orย blockย shots; either offense or defense may collect aย rebound, that is, a missed shot that bounces from rim or backboard. It is a violation toย lift or drag one’s pivot foot without dribbling the ball, toย carryย it, or toย hold the ball with both hands then resume dribbling.
The five players on each side fall into fiveย playing positions. The tallest player is usually theย center, the second-tallest and strongest is theย power forward, a slightly shorter but more agile player is theย small forward, and the shortest players or the best ball handlers are theย shooting guardย and theย point guard, who implements the coach’s game plan by managing the execution of offensive and defensive plays (player positioning). Informally, players may play three-on-three, two-on-two, and one-on-one.
Invented in 1891 by Canadian-American gym teacherย James Naismithย inย Springfield,ย Massachusetts,ย United States, basketball has evolved to become one of the world’s most popular and widely viewed sports.[1][2]ย Theย National Basketball Associationย (NBA) is the most significantย professional basketballย league in the world in terms of popularity, salaries, talent, and level of competition.[3][4]ย Outside North America, the top clubs from national leagues qualify to continental championships such as theย EuroLeagueย and theย Basketball Champions League Americas. Theย FIBA Basketball World Cupย andย Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournamentย are the major international events of the sport and attract top national teams from around the world. Each continent hosts regional competitions for national teams, likeย EuroBasketย andย FIBA AmeriCup.
Theย FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cupย andย Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournamentย feature top national teams from continental championships. The main North American league is theย WNBAย (NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championshipย is also popular), whereas the strongest European clubs participate in theย EuroLeague Women.

ย ย Research methodology
Research Design
The research design adopted in this research work is the survey research design which involves the usage of self-designed questionnaire in the collection of data. Under the survey research design, primary data of this study will be collected from female basketball team in Accra basketball league in order to determine factors predicting performance of female basketball team. The design was chosen because it enables the researcher to collect data without manipulation of any variables of interest in the study. The design also provides opportunity for equal chance of participation in the study for respondents.
Population of Study
The population of study is the census of all items or a subject that possess the characteristics or that have the knowledge of the phenomenon that is being studied (Asiaka, 1991). It also means the aggregate people from which the sample is to be drawn.
Population is sometimes referred to as the universe. The population of this research study will be Seventy-five (75) female basketball players

DATA PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter is about the analysis and presentation of data collected from the field through questionnaire. The analysis of the data with particular question immediately followed by the presentation of findings.
As mentioned in chapter three, 63 questionnaires were administered and 50 were retrieved and necessary analysis was carried out on them and presented as follows:
CHAPTER FIVE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Introduction
It is important to ascertain that the objective of this study was to ascertain factors predicting performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball leagues. In the preceding chapter, the relevant data collected for this study were presented, critically analyzed and appropriate interpretation given. In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of factors predicting performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball leagues.
Summary
This study was on factors predicting performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball leagues. Three objectives were raised which included: To find out the effect of physical fitness on performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball league, to find out the effect of age on the performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball league and to find out the effect of technical experience on the performance of female basketball team in Accra basketball league. The total population for the study is 75 players and coaching crew of female basketball team in Accra league. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies
ย Conclusion
Our study is one of the first to explore important issues related to age group differences in game-related and physical performance measures in female basketball players. The results demonstrated age group differences for strength characteristics only. Furthermore, there is also evidence from our results to suggest that superior aerobic and anaerobic power, speed, agility and jump capacity are related to some key game-related performance measures
Recommendation
We believe that this study provided important information to basketball coaches that can encourage them to identify the potential and technical-tactical needs of their players during the training and competition. This diagnosis enables practitioners to structure training sessions to enhance the continued development of basketball players throughout their development in sport, contributing to the training of players increasingly aware of their possibilities and responsibilities on the court.
