CHAPTER ONE

Objective of the Study

Training is the activity that deliberately attempts to improve a person’s skill in a job so, the main purpose of this work of study is to verify the impact of training and development on employee’s efficiency as means of increase productivity in the organization. Other objectives include:

  1. To verify how training and development can enhance better output of workers.
  2. To find out various ways in which employee can acquire training and development.
  3. To verify the adversity that could arise as a result of lack of proper training and development.
  4. To find out the relevance of subjecting the employee into training.
  5. To find out how training and development could boost the moral and behavior of employees.

CHAPTER TWO

LITERATURE REVIEW

An Overview of the Place Understudy

Okene Local Government Area is the case study of this study, Okene Local Government Area was one of the five local government areas inhabited by the Ebiras in Kogi State which are located in the south western part of Nigeria precisely, Babba province. Okene Local Government Area was created out of the Defunct Igbura aversion of Kabba province sequel to the 1976 reforms in the local government system in the country.

The Okene LGA inhabitants speak Ebira language and the last 2007 census of Nigeria place the population of people living in Okene LGA as high as 498,877. And Okene LGA could plausibly be referred to as the most developed in the state. It is strategically located at the gateway between the south and northern part of the country, commercial activities have a luxuriant base in Okene Local Government Area.

The main activity of Okene LGA being a public sector service is to cater for the people living in that area and to serve as link between the people and both the state and federal government.

 

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Introduction

This chapter talks about the various techniques and instruments used to obtain all the needed information to facilitate successful completion of this study or protect. In this research questionnaire instruments are used in obtaining information both for secondary and primary data.

CHAPTER FOUR:

DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS

Introduction

This chapter contains the analysis of responses from the respondents. The analysis and presentation of data were carried out through descriptive and analytical method to enhance the researcher’s understanding and appreciation of the work and chi-square was used to test relevant hypothesis.

Questionnaires were distributed to the staff of Okene Local Government Area or council which some fill and submitted.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

After careful analyses of Okene Local Government Council under study the questionnaire and personal interview conducted, the researcher was able to find out the following:

That most employees are aware of the importance of training in their job but that they do not have the opportunity of such training. Most of them are of the opinion that they were not aware of the training programmes which they are entitled. That it cost a lot of money to establish and rung a training school and that it is equally expensive to embark on training programmes especially outside the organization. That many of the top management staff are aware of training and development of employees to increase their efficiency and production. That more emphasis in place on training of technical oriented staff than the administrative staff. That with exception of few, most employees sponsored by the organization or public service on training programmes returned to the public service after completing their training.

Conclusion

Training is very important in every aspect of an organization as it enhances the efficient of staff and relates staff and output. Development course are equally very important as every one who begins a job has the ultimate aim of rising to the highest level. It is only by training and development of staff internally and extremely that this aim can be achieved and lastly, the availability of well-trained human resources cannot be overemphasized. Human resources should properly be incorporate to ensure the realization of the organization’s aims and objectives.

Recommendation

Following the findings and subsequent conclusions, the following recommendations were deemed very necessary:

  • The public sector should strive to establish a training school to train their staff. This will erase the cost of sending their staff to other centers outside their domain.
  • Courses, workshops, symposia and seminars should be periodically organized (not too expensive to run) in order to acquaint them with the current development programmes.
  • After the yearly appraisal and evaluation exercise of staff, each department should be allowed to draw up a chart for each year on staff training on only the technical oriented staff since everybody in the public service works for the attainment of stated goal.
