CHAPTER TWO

LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction

The growth of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the twenty first century has affected of the society, not only in Kurdistan and Iraq but also throughout the globe, including education. In the institutions of higher learning, the use of ICT facilitates distance learning which changes the whole pedagogical aspect. Online learning has been facilitated by multiple socioeconomic and pedagogical factors which has forced many institutions to embrace virtual learning processes. They include having better access to information, pedagogical improvements via graphic representations, virtual experiences, and simulations, reduced cost of e-learning where the teacher can access many learners virtually, increased collaboration and cooperation between stakeholders, synchronous learning, and better ICT infrastructure (Shahzad et al., 2020). Teachers and learners alike can choose the best app that best fit their needs based on factors such as costeffectiveness, ability to adapt to specific domains, re-usability, ability to be personalized, and time flexibility (Gustavsson et al., 2020). On the other hand, universities which are seeking to install ICT infrastructure into their learning systems face huge problems because of limited time and resources. As such, this section of research delves into past research about implementation of online learning in schools as a groundwork for the discussion of the issues identified during the interviews with the study participants. Various theories relating to the implementation will also be taken into consideration to show the need and relevance of the current study.

Chapter Three

Research methodology

Research Design

The research design adopted in this research work is the survey research design which involves the usage of self-designed questionnaire in the collection of data. Under the survey research design, primary data of this study will be collected from selected undergraduate students from University of Benin in order to determine problems undergraduate students face in online teaching. The design was chosen because it enables the researcher to collect data without manipulation of any variables of interest in the study. The design also provides opportunity for equal chance of participation in the study for respondents.

Population of Study

The population of study is the census of all items or a subject that possess the characteristics or that have the knowledge of the phenomenon that is being studied (Asiaka, 1991). It also means the aggregate people from which the sample is to be drawn.

Population is sometimes referred to as the universe. The population of this research study will be Seventy-five (75) selected undergraduate students from University of Benin

 CHAPTER FOUR

DATA PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter is about the analysis and presentation of data collected from the field through questionnaire. The analysis of the data with particular question immediately followed by the presentation of findings.

As mentioned in chapter three, 63 questionnaires were administered and 50 were retrieved and necessary analysis was carried out on them and presented as follows:

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Introduction

It is important to ascertain that the objective of this study was to ascertain problems undergraduate students face in online teaching in Benin City. In the preceding chapter, the relevant data collected for this study were presented, critically analyzed and appropriate interpretation given. In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of problems undergraduate students face in online teaching in Benin City.

Summary

This study was on problems undergraduate students face in online teaching in Benin City. Three objectives were raised which included: to find out the effect of time management of undergraduate student on online teaching in Benin City, to find out the effect of strong internet connection of undergraduate student on online teaching Benin city and to find out the effect of compatibility of undergraduate student on online teaching in Benin City. The total population for the study is 75 selected undergraduate students in University of Benin. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies

 Conclusion

Online Teaching and Learning got established to a great extent all over the world. But, due to sudden implementation and due to continuous adaptation of online classes without face to face classes, the online classes are losing its attraction and reverting back in the same speed as it got established. Too much of anything is toxic, this become reality for online classes also.

Recommendation

The results of the data indicate that college students face the challenge of the availability of internet infrastructure. Based on this conclusion, it is recommended that the government should provide students internet access by signing MOUs with cellular companies to give a discount to the students. It was also concluded that the home environment does not support the students, so it is recommended that colleges should organize orientations for the parents and educate them about this technological shift so that they may facilitate their children for online classes at home. Moreover, students have problems in submitting online assignments and data browsing. It is recommended that colleges should arrange workshops to enhance students’ knowledge and skills about e-learning.
