CHAPTER ONE

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The objectives of the use of software (Ms Project) in building project construction are as follows:

  1. To determine the benefits Ms projected have played in the management of building project construction
  2. To determine the importance of building project constructed with the aid of Ms Project for its programming with others constructed with other management application tool.
  3. To determine the extent of the use of software’s (Ms project) in building project construction
  4. To determine the strategies that would be applied for the improvement of the use of Ms project.

CHAPTER TWO

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE

Microsoft project is a project management software program developed and sold by Microsoft, which is designed to assist a project manager in developing plan and schedules,  resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing the budget  and analyzing workloads.

In this chapter the researcher reviews the relevant literature to this present study (ms project). the review is handled in the following sub headings.

  • The benefits of using Microsoft project
  • The importance of using  Microsoft project
  • The extent for the use of Microsoft project
  • The strategies for the improvement of the use of Microsoft project

BENEFITS OF USING MS PROJECT

This application offers a wide range of tools to manage projects, it can be seen as the advantages for its use:

  • The ms project is flexible and has efficient tool that can be used by government institution, constructions and business firms to manage their projects.
  • It helps the project managers to estimating budgets such that the right amount of money to fund the project development is set aside for consistency.
  • The program helps in monitoring progress developers, can be used to determine and correct errors, identified during installation and upgrading of any business or construction project.
  • Ms Project enables management of resources so as to accomplish particular work and at the stipulated period of time.
  • Ms Project also the enables back up of files and document and it is cheaper to implement.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the research plan method (methodology adopted in carrying out the study). An interview study of the implication and benefits of the use of software (ms project) in building project construction and the procedures employed for reporting and analyzing the data. Due to the extensive investigation required for this research, these chapter is organized under the following sub-heading.

CHAPTER FOUR

DATA PRESENTATION ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter deals with analysis and collection of data and subsequent interpretation. The data were collected through the use o oral interviews, literature review and mostly with the use of questionnaires were distributed to the various members of the building industry. The data collected are analyzed and presented in tables as related to the research questions. The findings relevant to the research question are discussed later in this chapter.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

In this chapter the researcher presented the discussion of major findings in summary of the study.

Furthermore, the conclusion was also drawn from the study, other highlights in this chapter were the implication of the study and suggestions for further research work.

SUMMARY

The results of the findings summarized the following ms project application is in existence but usually practice in us and some part of European countries but has not been practice fully in African especially in Nigeria.

Majority of the project managers builders  or project team here in Nigeria have heard abort ms project software as ca tool for effective project delivery, but three quarter out of the majority have not used it to manage their project few again give it out for people to design if for them or they will use the traditional style/ method of book and pencil at the end, it was summarized that those that have not used ms project for there project and have idea of it said they want to learn it if such opportunity presents its self and they are willing for the application to be raised for the programming of their project. Project manager/team who have idea said the application is effective in managing a project.

RECOMMENDATION

In this era of globalization and information technology there is need for IT related management forl which ms project software is one of them and from the results of findings reveals that project manager/team in some part 0f Europe and US do practice the use of ms project and is very effective in project delivery. But back have in our country Nigeria schedules or project managers or project team do not use it, of which respondents said there were not taught scheduling using Microsoft project software when there were still in school

The following are expected in order to promote and introduce the use of ms project software among the builders /project manager/project team or stakeholders e.t.c.

There is need for professionals in building industries NIOBCORBON to organize workshop seminars and stipulate Microsoft project software as a management tool for project managers/project teams, builders and student, studying under the construction discipline.

CONCLUSION

This study has revealed that apart from the benefits and implication in the use of Microsoft project in building project construction there is an Ill equipped computer wom for adequate practical work and non practical exposures of most student, project managers, project team, builders for the purpose of impacting the knowledge on the use of Microsoft program for effective project delivery, there are other salient factors that militate against obtaining use of Microsoft project in the construction industry, these includes non provision of the supervised industrial training to student in higher institutions ,lack of training material, vigorous process for the approval of the computer to be used by student for their practicals

The researcher through this study assented that except student, training which will make them functional in their environment and become more useful to themselves, and the construction industry as a whole. The researcher therefore calls on the government, construction firm, institutions of learning to ensure that the knowledge and practical of Microsoft project is taught and used in all building project construction in the nation

EDUCATION IMPLICATION OF THE FINDINGS OF THE STUDY

These educational implication are drawn from the findings of this study. There are beneficial to all construction firms and industry in the federation. The implication are as follows.

There is great need for construction firm/industry. Project managers, project team to introduce and strongly abide with the use of Microsoft software for programming for effective project delivery. Builders and other wiling professionals should be taught on how to use and acknowledge ms project software so that these work are not given to individual outside the firm to produce the work programme. Student of higher institute of learning should also be taught on how to use the software.

This study strongly implicates the important of regular interactions between construction firms/industries and the users of the application institutes like NIOB, CORBOR/ should endeavor to acquaint the knowledge to it members of professionals.
